We are brothers, Charlie and Daniel, third-generation rod builders. When you configure a custom ice rod with us, you get decades of experience and cutting-edge knowledge of the newest components.
Charlie Charlie Customs focuses on building fiberglass and carbon fiber casting, spinning, and ice fishing rods. We are located in Minnesota and are skilled at configuring open-water and cold-water rods. Our process begins with an unassuming interview so we can better understand how to match our rod materials to your type of fishing.
Purpose Built
We focus on getting exactly what you want for a price that fits your budget. A custom rod should not be limited to pros or anglers with deep pockets.
There's no need to limit the number of anglers who can experience what it is like to design a custom fishing rod and have a great day on the water catching fish. At CCC, we build rods from graphite, carbon fiber, and fiberglass rod blanks.
We take considerable pride in developing unique thread wraps for your Charlie Charlie Custom rod. We like to be challenged with innovative designs and color combinations. It is rewarding for us to have a new wrap pattern going out on a new rod.
The Materials
CCC is a Level 3 builder. We use MHX, CRB, Black Hole, Pacific Bay, and Point-Blank rods blanks for most of our builds. This means we can produce a rod with the right weight, strength, durability, and color from various blank manufacturers.
For rod guides, we offer double and single-footed versions. It is ideal to place double-footed guides on heavier rods with more rigidity. Single-footed guides are lighter and perform best on rods with less rigidity and deeper taper. We can also put micro guides on your rod, which work best for situations where keeping weight down and sensitivity at a maximum is your focus.
For color customization, we build that into the guide wraps, winding checks (the piece that fits on the top of the grip), trim rings, eyelets, and decals above the grip. As for grips, we use customized colors with EVA, carbon fiber wraps, or different cork colors and patterns.
Custom Rod Building Process
Once the reel seat, handle, guides, grips, and wrapping are added, we finish the rod.
The process starts with adding a color saver to threads to ensure the dye does not fade or run. Next, the epoxy coating is applied as this secures and protects all the customized components of the rod. It takes about 30 minutes to apply and 24 hours to dry properly. This process is cycled through three times to ensure perfect curing and setting.
